Selkirk College’s Pharmacy Technician program prepares graduates for employment as pharmacy technicians in a variety of settings including community, hospital, and residential pharmacies. Graduates have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to meet the entry-level competencies defined by the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities . Learners will apply problem-solving and critical thinking skills to assisted living and community pharmacy practice in this comprehensive lab. Operation of a high-speed automated drug packager (PACMED®) will be integrated into the dispensing process and extensive use of role-plays will further develop communication skills. Learners will also examine the role of the pharmacy technician in the health care setting. All students registered in this career program are required to write theTest of Workplace Essential Skills assessment in term one of their program.
The program places emphasis on hands-on training and experience in a simulated environment using technology, supplies, and equipment, as used in the workplace. Pharmacy technicians working in hospitals start at approximately $28 per hour, and with experience, can earn up to $37 per hour. Community pharmacy technicians usually earn approximately $20 to $30 per hour.
This training is fast, effective, and based on the practical skills you need to get hired. You simply complete a quality Pharmacy Assistant program and begin work in the field.
